Where To Build Your House

The Parable of "Building Your House on a Rock" is found in Luke 6:47–49 and Matthew 7:24–27. Jesus tells this parable to emphasize the importance of living according to God's instructions. In the parable, Jesus compares building a house on solid ground (representing following God's Word) to building a house on shifting sand (defining following the world's ways).

The man who built his house on the rock followed God's teaching and could withstand any storms or floods. Even when the winds blew and the rains fell, the house remained strong because it was built on solid ground. But, on the other hand, the house built on sand was instantly destroyed when the floods came.

The parable reinforces the importance of seeking God's will and living according to His Word. When we build our lives on a solid foundation, following His commands and precepts, nothing can shake us – not even the fiercest storms of life. But if we choose to live according to the world's ways and ignore God's instructions, then whatever we build will be quickly swept away.

Jesus concludes His parable with a simple but powerful statement: “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock” (Matthew 7:24). Let us, therefore, be wise and build our lives on the solid foundation of God's Word. When we do, no matter what storms may come, we will remain firm. Amen.
