Scripture Anchor: “Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top is in the heavens; let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth.” — Genesis 11:4 (NKJV)
1. The Ancient Blueprint
The Tower of Babel was more than brick and mortar. It was humanity uniting in rebellion against God, seeking independence, security, and glory apart from His name. The Lord Himself noted: “Indeed the people are one and they all have one language... now nothing that they propose to do will be withheld from them” (Genesis 11:6).
2. The Modern Tower: Artificial Intelligence
Today, we are witnessing a modern Tower of Babel—not of stone, but of code, chips, and algorithms.
Governments and tech giants worldwide are racing to create Artificial General Intelligence (AGI)—machines capable of self-learning and decision-making beyond human limits.
Elon Musk warns of AI as an “existential threat.”
The EU, U.S., and China are rolling out AI regulation frameworks—but still driven by competition, not humility before God.
In September 2025, news broke that over 1,200 companies signed a global agreement on AI “safety,” while at the same time pouring billions into advancing its power. (Reuters, AP, BBC, etc.)
Like Babel, AI carries both unprecedented unity and prideful ambition.
3. Word Study: “Name” (שֵׁם shem)
In Hebrew, shem means more than a label; it means character, reputation, fame.At Babel, mankind said: “Let us make a name (shem) for ourselves.”Today, nations and corporations chase the same: reputation, dominance, and eternal legacy—without God.
4. Prophetic Warning
Revelation 13 speaks of a coming system where no one can “buy or sell” without the mark. The digital and AI systems being built now are the infrastructure of that control. What began as “innovation” is morphing into domination.
Babel was stopped by God confusing languages. Today, languages are not confused—AI models can translate all tongues in real time. Humanity is, once again, “of one language.”
5. Application: Standing in Truth
Don’t fear technology—but don’t worship it.
Use tools, but refuse to let them define your trust.
Anchor in Psalm 20:7 — “Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; But we will remember the name of the Lord our God.”
6. Prophetic Nugget
The old Babel fell because men sought their own name. The New Jerusalem will rise because God’s people bear His Name. Choose today which tower you stand under.
7. Closing Call
Friend, don’t get swept away by the shiny promises of AI. Ask yourself: Am I more eager for technology to save me, or for Jesus to return for me?
