“The Time I Nearly Gave Up… But Didn’t.”

By Pastor Terry Bailey

When the Weight Felt Too Heavy:

There came a night when I sat silently, staring at nothing and feeling everything. The calls didn’t come back, and the prayers felt unanswered. The loneliness crept in deeper than usual.

I felt done, tired of being strong,

tired of being misunderstood,

tired of pressing on.

Psalm 34:18 – 'The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves such as have a contrite spirit.'

But Grace Found Me in the Quiet

No lightning.

No voice from Heaven.

Just a holy whisper that said, 'I’m still here.'

* But the truth was enough.

Isaiah 40:29 – 'He gives power to the weak, and to those who have no might He increases strength.'

I Remembered Who Carried Me This Far

I looked back — not at what I lacked but how far God had brought me.

Every hardship had been a chapter. Every tear had watered the seeds I now see blooming.

1 Samuel 7:12 – 'Thus far the Lord has helped us.'

I Didn’t Climb Out — I Was Lifted

People think I fought my way through. Truth is, I was carried.

By grace.

By prayer.

By the steady hands of a Savior who never let go.

Deuteronomy 1:31 – '...you saw how the Lord your God carried you, as a man carries his son…'

And That’s Why I Stayed

Not because I’m strong — but because He is.

Not because I had the answers, but because I knew the One who does.

John 6:68 – 'Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.'

Sunset Summary

I nearly gave up — but I didn’t.

And now, when someone else feels like quitting, I can look them in the eye and say:

'Don’t. Just don’t. You’re closer than you think. And He’s stronger than you know.'
