🔥 "Take My Name Off the List If You Can’t Forgive Them."

A Spirit-filled Teaching from the Heart of Moses — Told by Pastor Terry

🎙️ Opening Words

Now, friends, I’ve read through Scripture more times than I can count, but every time I come across this one moment between Moses and the Lord…It shakes me all over again.

It’s not just about judgment. It’s not just about mercy. It’s about intercession so deep… a man was willin’ to say to God:

“If You can’t forgive them, then blot me out of Your book too.”(Exodus 32:32)

I can’t even hardly speak that without my voice crackin’. Because that — right there — is the kind of love that reflects Christ before the world ever met Him face to face.

📖 Exodus 32:31–32 (NKJV)

“Then Moses returned to the Lord and said, ‘Oh, these people have committed a great sin, and have made for themselves a god of gold! Yet now, if You will forgive their sin, but if not, I pray, blot me out of Your book which You have written.’”

🧠 Let’s Slow This Down and Let It Preach

Now that ain’t Moses threatenin’ God. That ain’t him throwin’ a fit. That’s the cry of a man whose heart was fully aligned with the Father’s desire to forgive.

He was sayin’:

“Lord, if redemption ain’t an option, then I don’t want any part of eternal life without these people You gave me to shepherd.”

Now that’s weight. That’s love. That’s a glimpse into the heart of Jesus, 1,500 years before Calvary.

🧠 Teaching Point #1: Moses Wasn’t Bargaining — He Was Bleeding

There’s a difference between negotiating with God…and laying down your life in prayer.

Moses wasn’t trying to change God’s mind —He was offering up his own heart to stand in the way of wrath.

He said, “If You’ll destroy them, then destroy me too.”And that sounds a whole lot like:

“Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.” – Jesus, Luke 23:34

💥 Teaching Point #2: This Is the Gospel in Shadow Form

This one verse right here — Exodus 32:32 — is the closest Old Testament image of what Jesus did on the Cross.

Moses couldn't take their sin. He couldn't carry it. He couldn’t bear it.

But Jesus could — and He did.

🎨 Illustration – The Name in the Book

Let’s imagine something together.

Picture Moses holdin’ a scroll with all the names of Israel… and one line at the bottom says:

“Moses, son of Amram — called by God, friend of God.”

And he takes his own knife and starts scratchin’ out his name, lookin’ up and sayin’:

“If they can’t be in it… I don’t want to be either.”

That's not drama. That’s divine compassion flowin’ through human flesh.

That’s the heart of a real pastor.

🔥 Final Truths: Mercy Held Back the Fire

God didn’t strike Israel that day. But let’s be clear — He could’ve. He would've…But one man stood in the gap and said, “Take me instead.”

God saw that. And just like He looked down from Heaven on His Son one day on a cross…He stayed the hand of judgment.

🙏 Application for the Listener

👂 To the Shepherd or Leader: Are you ready to love people that deeply? Not just preach at them… but plead for them?

You ain't called to be liked — you’re called to love like Jesus. And that may mean pain. That may mean rejection. But the love that says, “Take me instead” — that’s Holy Spirit love.

👂 To the Sinner on the Fence: There’s still time. Moses stood in the gap then. Jesus stands in the gap now.

But that door of mercy won’t stay open forever. The Book of Life is still being written —and your name can be in it.

But if you wait too long…you might not get another page.

🙏 Closing Prayer

“Lord, I thank You for Moses — for the fire in his soul that mirrors the fire in Yours. Thank You that even when we deserve judgment, You raise up someone to plead for us. But most of all, thank You for Jesus, who didn’t just offer to be blotted out… He was bruised and pierced for us. May we not ignore such mercy. May we not delay our repentance. And may we be the ones who say:‘Take my life, Lord — use it to reach one more soul.’In Jesus’ name, amen.”
