SURRENDER — Lay Down the Flag, Take Up the Cross.

(A grace-based, no-compromise acrostic sermon by Pastor Terry & docbmedia.com)

“Every heart is born a little kingdom flying its own flag. The Gospel arrives like a liberating army—not to enslave us, but to set us free under a better King.”

✔️No different than a story of a Confederate soldier at Appomattox folding his colors, realizing the war was lost—and how peace, for some, began the moment the flag dropped.

“Brother, sister… the civil war inside your soul ends the same way—when you wave the white flag to Jesus.”

The SURRENDER Acrostic

Letter

Anchor Truth

Scripture

Preaching Pointers

S

Stop resisting the Spirit

Acts 7:51

The Spirit’s knock grows softer when we keep deadbolting the door.

U

Unclench your hands

Psalm 24:1

Everything we guard with white knuckles already belongs to God.

R

Repent of self-rule

Luke 9:23

Surrender begins where self-sovereignty dies—“deny yourself.”

R

Release your rights

Philippians 2:5-8

Christ laid aside heaven’s privileges; we can lay aside a few of ours.

E

Exchange burdens

Matthew 11:28-30

Trade the backpack of sin for the yoke that fits and sets the pace.

N

Nail the flesh

Galatians 5:24

The cross isn’t décor; it’s a crucifixion site for the old nature.

D

Die daily

1 Corinthians 15:31

Yesterday’s surrender is yesterday’s manna—fresh obedience is baked each dawn.

E

Embrace His will

Romans 12:1-2

God’s will is not a prison—it’s the runway where true purpose takes off.

R

Rest in His victory

John 19:30; Hebrews 4:9-10

We fight from victory, not for it. The empty tomb is our cease-fire agreement.

You must choose, ‘My will be done’; or ‘Thy will be done.’ Only one of them brings real peace.”

Real-World Application

  1. Marriage & family: Ask, “Lord, what battle am I still trying to win at home that You’ve already ruled on?”

  2. Finances: Move from clenched-fist giving to open-hand living.

  3. Ministry: Serve from rest, not restlessness—let outcomes be God’s business.

  4. Personal secret: Identify the one hidden stronghold and lay it on the altar today.

Altar Call

“If you’re tired of civil war inside your chest, come wave the white flag. Kneel, pray, whisper—or just collapse into His arms. The King never turns away a surrendering heart.”

Closing Prayer

“Lord Jesus, we unbuckle the armor of self-defense and kneel at Your feet. Possess what we possess, command what we command, spend what we spend, love through our lips, walk with our feet. From this moment forward, the only flag we fly is Yours.

Amen.”
