📖 “Soon” in the Bible — A Southern Gentleman’s Explanation

Let’s talk plainly: when the Bible says Jesus is comin’ soon, it don’t mean soon like your grits’ll be done in five minutes. It means soon on God’s clock, not ours — and that’s a whole different time zone altogether.
📜 1. The Greek Word: "Tachy" (ταχύ)
Found in: Revelation 22:7 — “Behold, I come quickly…”
🧭 Meaning:
It’s where we get the word tachometer — used to measure speed.
“Tachy” means: suddenly, rapidly, or swiftly once it begins.
🪶 Southern Translation:
"He ain’t sayin’ He’s pullin’ in the driveway tomorrow — He’s sayin’ when He does, it’ll be faster than a chicken on a June bug. No time to pack (or peck). No time to pray. Just be ready, or you’ll be left wonderin’ what just happened."
📜 2. The Hebrew Word: "Qarob" (קָרוֹב)
Found in: Joel 2:1 — “The day of the Lord cometh, for it is nigh at hand.”
🧭 Meaning:
It’s used to describe something within reach, imminent, or approaching quickly.
Not necessarily today, but it could be — so keep your boots laced.
🪶 Southern Translation:
"It’s like a storm cloud rollin’ over the hill — might not be pourin’ just yet, but you best get the clothes off the line, 'cause it’s comin'."
📜 3. Aramaic Implication (Contextual)
In the parts of Daniel written in Aramaic (like Daniel 2–7), the sense of urgency and certainty is often built into the tone of the message, not just one word.
🧭 Example:
Daniel 2:28 — “There is a God in heaven that revealeth secrets, and maketh known what shall be in the latter days…”
There’s no single “soon” word there, but the urgency is wrapped in the revelation — “This is gonna happen, and when it does, it won’t wait for you to catch up.”
🪶 Southern Translation:
"It’s like Daddy sayin’ at sundown, ‘We leavin’. I ain’t honkin’ twice.’ If you ain’t on the wagon, you’re walking’ the dust cloud."
🕰️ Why “Soon” Still Means What It Meant
People say, “Well, Pastor, it’s been 2,000 years!” And I say, “Friend, that’s not a delay — that’s mercy.”
2 Peter 3:8-9 — “One day is with the Lord as a thousand years... The Lord is not slack concerning His promise… but is longsuffering, not willing that any should perish.”
🪶 Southern Wrap-Up:
"God ain’t slow — He’s patient. But that door ain’t gonna stay open forever. Just like in Noah’s day, the rain started while folks were still laughin’. But that flood didn’t care who believed or not. It just came."
🚨 Final Word from the Porch:
Soon in the Bible don’t mean you can mark it on your calendar. It means live like He could come before supper, because once it starts, it’ll be too fast to fix anything.
