🧭 Should Believers Fear God?

Many modern preachers say, “The fear of God is Old Testament — it doesn’t apply to Christians today.” But Scripture says otherwise.

📖 New Testament Command:

“Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.” — Philippians 2:12

📖 To the Early Church:

“Then had the churches rest... and were edified; and walking in the fear of the Lord...” — Acts 9:31

So yes, the fear of God is for believers — not a fear of punishment, but of reverence, awe, and accountability before a holy God.

🔍WORD STUDY – “Fear” (Greek: phobos) This is the root of our word “phobia,” but biblically, it means a profound respect, reverent awe, and a healthy dread of displeasing God.

It’s not terror that drives you away — it’s reverence that draws you near.

⚠️ WARNING:To say, “We no longer need to fear God,” is to dull the edge of holiness and accountability.

“By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil.” — Proverbs 16:6

The absence of godly fear often breeds compromise, Carnality, and Casual Christianity.

✅ True fear of the Lord doesn’t chain you — it frees you from sin. It doesn’t push you from God — it pulls you into purity.
