A Response from Pastor Terry
Now, I could toss out a quick theological answer. But instead, I feel the weight of that question—the heart behind it. Maybe someone was thinking of a loved one who had just taken their last breath. Perhaps even thinking of their own. Either way, the answer deserves more than facts. It deserves the truth—with Grace.
Now I’ll tell you.
Yes, there’s breath in Heaven.
But not like we know it down here—not like us gasping for air after climbing a few stairs or fighting through a sickness. No, the breath in Heaven ain't bound by lungs or oxygen. It's Spirit-breathed life, straight from the heart of God.
In the beginning, over in Genesis 2:7, it says:
“The Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living soul.”
That first breath came from God, not from an atmosphere. It wasn’t just air—it was divine power.
And that same ruach—that Hebrew word for breath, wind, or spirit—is what fills the lungs of Heaven today. No ventilators. No shallow breathing. No wheezing. Just pure, unfiltered Life Himself.
Let me say it like this:
You won’t need a CPR machine in glory. You won’t need a rescue inhaler by your mansion. You won’t ever say, “Give me a second to catch my breath.”Because your breath will be the presence of God Himself.
Paul said in 1 Corinthians 15:44 that we are sown as natural bodies, but raised as Spiritual bodies. That means the oxygen tank gets left behind, and what we pick up in exchange is the everlasting breath of Heaven.
And listen—if Christ breathed on His disciples and they received the Holy Ghost (John 20:22), don’t you think the very air of Heaven is soaked in the Holy Spirit?
So what does that mean for us here and now?
It means when your loved one took that final breath on earth, they inhaled eternity on the other side.
It means that every gasp of struggle here is answered by a sigh of relief over there.
It means that when we sing,
“Let everything that has breath praise the Lord,”(Psalm 150:6)—that song never ends in Heaven, because that breath never runs out.
So, Church, don’t fear that last breath down here.
Because for those who are in Christ, it ain’t the end of life—it’s the beginning of glory.
And when you get there…You won’t just breathe. You’ll live.
