🧭Jesus Spoke About Hell — Not to Frighten Us But to Free Us.

🙏 OPENING PRAYER:

Heavenly Father, Thank You for calling me into the ministry of reconciliation. Thank You for the truth of Your Word — both the promises of Heaven and the warnings of Hell. Give me boldness to speak truth in love, grace to call hearts to repentance, and the humility to remember that judgment is Yours alone. May this Word not only instruct minds but also ignite souls to run toward the cross. In Jesus’ mighty name, amen.

📖 MAIN TEXT:

Luke 12:4–5 (KJV)

“And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him.”

🪔 INTRODUCTION:

There’s a popular claim going around — that Jesus talked more about Hell than any other topic. Now, that’s not entirely accurate... but it is true that He spoke of Hell more clearly and more forcefully than any other person in the Bible.

He didn’t do it to manipulate people — He did it to motivate them... toward the mercy of God!

🧠 WORD STUDY:

  • Hell (Greek: Gehenna) — Derived from the Valley of Hinnom, a cursed, fiery dump outside Jerusalem. In Jesus’ teaching, it became the symbol of final, conscious, eternal punishment.

  • Hades — Not Hell as we know it, but a temporary holding place for the unrighteous dead (see Luke 16:23).

Jesus didn’t avoid these words. He spoke to them plainly, with tears behind the truth. Because He loved people enough to warn them.

📚 1. JESUS SPOKE OF HELL — BECAUSE SIN IS SERIOUS

Matthew 5:29 – “If your right eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out…”

He wasn’t saying to mutilate your body — He was saying, “Don’t play around with sin.”

Hell is God’s justice answering sin’s rebellion. And sin isn't just bad behavior — it’s cosmic treason.

2. JESUS DESCRIBED HELL — TO SHOW HEAVEN’S VALUE

You can’t appreciate the gift of Salvation until you realize what you’ve been saved from!

Matthew 25:41 – “Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels.”

Hell was never prepared for us — it was made for Satan and his demons. But rejecting Jesus leaves no other destination.

3. JESUS WARNED OF HELL — BECAUSE GRACE IS AVAILABLE

John 3:16 – “For God so loved the world…”

Why talk about Hell? Because there’s a Cross, a Savior, a Resurrection, and a Way Out! And, beloved — if we don’t believe in Hell, we’ll cheapen the Cross.

🎣 ILLUSTRATION:

Picture a lighthouse on a stormy night. That beam cutting through the fog isn’t judging the ship — it’s saving it. It says, “There’s danger ahead. Turn around before it’s too late.”

That’s what Jesus was doing every time He mentioned Hell — shining light into the darkness, saying, “Come to Me, all who are weary.”

Some say, “I don’t want a God who sends people to Hell.” Friend — God doesn’t send people to Hell... people choose to walk away from the only rescue plan available.

Hell exists because free will exists. Love without choice is Slavery. So God gave us choice — and then gave us Jesus, so we wouldn’t choose destruction.

🧭 CONCLUSION:

Jesus spoke of Hell not to terrify us... but to turn us. Not to threaten us... but to thrill us with Salvation.

If Jesus preached it, so must we — but let us preach it with tears in our voice and hope in our hands.

🛎️ ALTAR CALL / FACEBOOK INVITATION:

Hell is real. But so is the Cross. Sin is deadly. But grace is greater. Judgment is coming. But Jesus already took yours — if you’ll just believe.

🙏 Sinner’s Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I come to You today, fully aware that I am a sinner in need of a Savior. I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God — that He died for my sins and rose from the grave so I could have eternal life. Right now, I repent of my sins. I turn from my way, and I choose Your way. Jesus, I invite You into my heart to be my Lord, my Savior, and my King. Wash me in Your blood. Fill me with Your Spirit. I don’t want religion — I want a relationship with You. Thank You for saving me. I am Yours, now and forever. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
