Scripture Anchor: “And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars… and there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows.” — Matthew 24:6–8 (NKJV)
1. The Headlines We’re Seeing
In 2025 alone:
Hurricane season in the Atlantic has broken records, with Category 4 and 5 storms striking more frequently.
California wildfires have scorched millions of acres despite new technology in firefighting.
Massive earthquakes shook Japan, Chile, and Turkey this year, with tens of thousands displaced.
Floods across Asia have affected millions, while severe drought grips parts of Africa.
The earth seems restless — but Scripture told us it would be.
2. Word Study: “Sorrows” (ὠδίν ōdin)
The Greek ōdin means birth pains — contractions before new life comes.
Every earthquake, storm, or fire is not just chaos; it’s a birth pang.
They grow stronger, closer together, and more painful as the end approaches.
Creation itself is groaning, waiting for redemption (Romans 8:22).
3. Prophetic Warning
Natural disasters are not random. They are reminders:
That this world is temporary.
That judgment is real.
That Christ’s return is near.
Jesus did not say, “These are the end.” He said, “These are the beginning.” The contractions of prophecy are intensifying.
4. Application for Believers
Don’t panic when the earth shakes. Trust the One who holds the earth in His hand.
Be ready to serve — disasters are opportunities to show Christ’s love.
Live prepared. Just as storms require readiness, so does the coming of the Son of Man.
Anchor in Psalm 46:1 — “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”
5. Prophetic Nugget
The shaking of the earth is not just a warning — it’s a rehearsal. Every quake, every storm, every fire whispers: “This world is passing, but a new one is coming.”
6. Closing Call
Friend, don’t just read disasters as news. Read them as signs. The earth is groaning, but hope is birthing. Jesus is coming soon.
