A Grace-Based, No-Compromise Children's Story With Real-World Wisdom
👨👨👧 A Word From Papa Terry:
Can I ask you something?
When's the last time you sat your children or grandchildren down and talked to them—not about school, sports, or screen time—but about God? About faith? About what it means to truly trust Him when the world is louder than ever with distractions, doubts, and deceptions?
The truth is, most families today—even many Christian homes—don't discuss Deuteronomy 6, where God instructs us to teach His Word "diligently" to our children, whether we sit, walk, or do anything else, when we lie down, when we rise.
We’re told to live it, show it, and tell it. And that's exactly what this story aims to do.
📜 The Bible Story: David and Goliath (1 Samuel 17)
Once upon a very real time, there was a teenage shepherd named David. He wasn’t strong in the world’s eyes. He wasn’t trained for war. But he had something Goliath would never possess: faith in the Living God.
The Philistines were bullying God's people, and their loudest voice was a literal giant named Goliath. This man stood over 9 feet tall, wore armor like iron, and had a booming voice full of mockery against God. Every day, he shouted, daring someone to fight him.
But nobody moved. Not one grown man. Not even King Saul.
Then along came David, delivering lunch to his brothers. When he heard Goliath mocking God, David didn’t run. He didn’t tremble. He didn’t scroll past it like it wasn’t his problem. He asked the question we all need to ask:
“Who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?” (1 Samuel 17:26, NKJV)
They laughed at him. Even his own family said, "Go home, kid." But David knew something they forgot: God fights for His people.
David picked up five smooth stones, loaded his sling, and ran toward the giant while shouting:
“You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts...” (1 Samuel 17:45, NKJV)
And with one stone, he struck Goliath in the forehead, and the giant fell. Dead. Just like that.
God did what no one else could do—and He used a boy who believed in Him.
🚨 The Real-World Twist:
Today, your kids and mine aren’t facing a giant in armor. But they are facing a different kind of Goliath:
Peer pressure that mocks purity
Social media that values likes over love
Teachers and textbooks that deny God's truth
Celebrities who praise sin and laugh at holiness
The Goliaths haven’t gone away. They’ve just gone digital, cultural, and emotional.
And we—as parents, grandparents, and guardians of truth—have a Biblical duty to equip our children like David: not with fear, but with faith.
💪 The Application:
God is still raising Davids.
But here's the question:
Are we raising them to throw stones in faith, or are we letting them fall silent in the shadow of today’s giants?
Start by sharing this story with them. Read it aloud. Talk about it. Ask questions like:
What are some giants you face?
What does it mean to trust God instead of being afraid?
How can we be like David this week?
Then pray together. Let the Word live in your home.
