Note: The ancient Greek word for "whole armor" (panoplia) meant all the equipment needed to be fully armed to wage effective warfare, including defensive shielding and offensive weaponry.
Well, my brothers and sisters in Christ, today I want to talk to you about the purpose of the armor of God. You see, in Ephesians 6:11, we are told to put on the armour of God so that we may be able to stand against the enemy's wiles. Now, some of you might be wondering what the enemy's wiles are, but let me tell you plain and simple: Satan and his demonic forces are always trying to bring us down, make us stumble, and keep us from following God's will.
But thanks be to God, we don't have to roll over and take it! We have been given the whole armor of God to protect us and enable us to stand firm. And what does this armor consist of, you might ask? Well, let me break it down for you:
First off, we have the belt of truth. You see, Satan is the father of lies and loves to deceive us with all sorts of false teachings and twisted half-truths. But if we are firmly rooted in God's Word, we can discern the truth from the lies and stand firm on the solid rock of Christ.
Next up, we have the breastplate of righteousness. This represents the moral integrity that we are called to pursue as Christ-followers. When we live lives of purity and holiness, we can guard our hearts from enemy attacks.
Then we have the shoes of the Gospel of peace. These shoes allow us to stand firm and spread the good news of Jesus Christ to those around us. By sharing the gospel message, we are helping to advance God's Kingdom and push back against the enemy's darkness.
After that, we have the Shield of Faith. When the fiery arrows of Satan come our way, it is our faith that allows us to deflect them and remain steadfast in our commitment to Christ.
And last but certainly not least, we have the helmet of Salvation and the Sword of the Spirit, the Word of God. These two items go hand in hand – the helmet protects our minds from the lies of the enemy, and the sword allows us to strike back with the truth of God's Word.
Some of y'all might be thinking, "That's all fine and dandy, but what's the point? Why do we need this armor in the first place?" Well, let me tell you – we need this armor because we are in a spiritual war. Satan and his minions constantly try to drag us down and keep us from fulfilling God's purposes for our lives.
But when we put on the whole armor of God, we can stand firm and resist the devil's schemes. We can live lives of righteousness and pursue God's will. And most importantly, we can bring glory to God and further his Kingdom here on earth.
So my friends, I implore you – put on the whole armor of God, and do not be afraid to stand firm against the enemy's attacks. As it says in Ephesians 6:13, "Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm." Let us stand firm, Brothers, and Sisters, and give glory to God in all we do.
Amen.
