Testimony of Pastor Terry W. Bailey: From Brokenness to Redemption Through Jesus Christ.

I was born into the Deep South in 1952 in Selma, Alabama, and raised in Camden's rural, gritty backdrop. My early years were shaped by small-town life and the struggles of a broken world. At just 12 years old, I began working at the Alco Theater, earning my way through life even as shadows loomed over my soul. Like so many, I sought meaning in work, family, and community—but I was far from the truth that could set me free.

By the time I joined the U.S. Air Force as a Military Security Specialist, the world had already taken its toll on me. The realities of life—both in the military and later as a logger in Oregon and a long-haul trucker across the U.S. and Canada—left me hardened. I was a man of strength on the outside, but inside, I was enslaved by the weight of sin, consumed by alcohol, and living with no hope for eternity.

At the age of 28, my life took a dramatic turn. I encountered the only truth that could pierce through my hardened heart: the saving grace of Jesus Christ. In that moment, everything I had clung to—my self-reliance, my pride, and my brokenness—was laid bare before the cross. I realized that no amount of work, no success, and no earthly pursuit could fill the void in my soul. Only Jesus could.

The Bible says in Romans 5:8, "But God demonstrates His love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." I came to know that Jesus had paid the ultimate price for my sins—not just the surface-level mistakes but the deep, dark brokenness I had hidden from the world. He didn't just see me in my sin; He loved me enough to save me from it.

A New Creation in Christ

When I gave my life to Christ, I experienced a transformation that no words can fully describe. 2 Corinthians 5:17 became my reality: "Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has gone; the new is here!" The chains of alcoholism, guilt, and shame were broken. The fullness of His Spirit replaced the emptiness that had haunted me for so long.

God didn't just save me; He gave me a purpose. He called me to the ministry, where I spent over two decades shepherding others as a pastor, counselor, and chaplain. For 16 ½ years, I poured my heart into serving at the Family Worship Center in Butte, Montana. I have counseled countless marriages, guided families, and stood alongside others in their darkest hours—all because Jesus stood by me in mine.

Overcoming Challenges Through His Strength

Life didn't suddenly become easy. I've faced the trials of cancer, the scars of PTSD, and the brokenness of divorce. But through it all, Jesus has remained my anchor. Philippians 4:13 rings true in every challenge: "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."

As a retired pastor and a 100% service-connected disabled veteran, I see God's hand in my life. He has blessed me with a large and loving family: seven children, fourteen grandchildren, and now a great-grandson—with another great-grandchild on the way. I am proof that no matter how far you've fallen, God's grace can lift you higher than you ever imagined.

The Only Saving Comes Through Jesus

My testimony is not about my strength, achievements, or survival—it's about Jesus Christ. It's about a Savior who left the glory of heaven to save a broken sinner like me. Acts 4:12 declares: "Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved."

Friend, no matter where you are in life—whether you feel trapped by sin, weighed down by guilt, or searching for purpose—Jesus is the answer. He is not a distant deity; He is a personal Savior who loves you so much that He died for you. His sacrifice is sufficient, His grace is limitless, and His arms are open wide.

The Invitation: A Sinner's Prayer

If you feel the stirring of the Holy Spirit and are ready to surrender your life to Jesus, pray this prayer from your heart:

"Lord Jesus, I confess I am a sinner needing Your grace. I believe that You died on the cross for my sins and rose again, defeating death and offering me eternal life. I surrender my life to You. Forgive me, cleanse me, and make me a new creation. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit and guide me in Your truth. Today, I declare that You are my Lord and Savior. Thank You for saving me. In Jesus' name, Amen."

Closing Encouragement

If you prayed that prayer, you are now a child of God. Luke 15:10 says, "There is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents." Heaven is celebrating your decision, and so am I.

As someone who has walked the road of brokenness and redemption, I can assure you that Jesus will never leave you nor forsake you (Hebrews 13:5). He will walk with you every step of the way. Find a Bible-believing church, immerse yourself in God's Word, and surround yourself with others who will encourage your faith.

My testimony proves that no one is too far gone for the grace of God. If He can redeem a sinner like me, He can—and will—do the same for you.
