The Battle for Life: Unmasking the Spiritual Forces Behind Abortion for Convenience.
Introduction:
A sobering truth: each life is precious to God. As Christians, we are called to honor life from conception, recognizing each child as a divine creation. However, we face an enemy who "comes only to steal and kill and destroy" (John 10:10). Our world is engaged in a Spiritual battle over life, as Paul warns in Ephesians 6:12, "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." Today, I want us to look beyond the social and economic factors that often justify abortion and uncover the Spiritual wickedness influencing hearts and minds, leading even a mother to consider ending the life within her for convenience.
**1. The Sanctity of Life in the Womb**:
- Scripture tells us in Psalm 139:13-16 that God knits each child together in their mother's womb. Life begins before birth, ordained by God Himself.
- Every child—regardless of circumstance—is God's masterpiece, with purpose and potential.
- The Bible makes it clear that each child's life is known and loved by God from conception onward.
**2. Spiritual Forces Behind Heart-Hardening**:
- The decision to terminate a pregnancy, mainly out of convenience, doesn't come from the natural order that God designed. The Bible reveals that there are rulers and powers actively working against God's design.
- In Ephesians 4:18-19, Paul speaks of those whose "understanding is darkened" and who are "alienated from the life of God" due to spiritual blindness. Satan works to blind minds and harden hearts (2 Corinthians 4:4), even leading a mother to go against her instincts to nurture and protect.
- The forces of spiritual wickedness exploit personal fears and societal pressures—finances, relationships, or career—to harden hearts. Yet God offers us His truth and grace to soften even the hardest hearts.
**3. The Lies and Deception of the Enemy**:
- Satan, who is called the "father of lies" (John 8:44), has propagated one of the greatest deceptions of our age: that a child's life in the womb is dispensable.
- This deception has led to the justification of ending life for convenience, not for safety or survival. Studies reveal that around 97% of abortions are performed for reasons other than health or crisis.
- Our culture has embraced lies that "it's not the right time" or "it's not convenient," but we must expose these as lies that the enemy uses to diminish the value of life. Proverbs 24:11-12 calls us to "rescue those who are being taken away to death" and warns that we cannot claim ignorance when it comes to innocent lives.
**4. A Call to Wake Up and Stand for Life**:
- Just as Jesus calls us to be the "salt of the earth" (Matthew 5:13), we are called to stand for life in a world that disregards it.
- Paul's instruction to "wake up from your slumber" (Romans 13:11) is a charge to the church today to defend the voiceless and uphold the sanctity of life, shining light into the darkness that surrounds the issue of abortion.
We must be vigilant in our lives, asking ourselves if we are unwittingly influenced by the same culture that supports convenience over life. Are we guarding our own hearts and speaking truth to those who are misled?
**5. Hope and Healing for the Lost and Broken**:
- God's love is more significant than any sin, and His grace is extended to those who have chosen abortion. Our message is one of redemption and hope, not condemnation.
Ezekiel 36:26 says that God will "give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you." We need to share this message—that God can transform even the hardest heart and offer forgiveness.
- We must encourage mothers to see their worth in Christ and to trust in His provision, reminding them of Jeremiah 29:11, where God promises, "For I know the plans I have for you," which includes every child He brings into this world.
**6. Offering Practical Help and Support**:
- As the body of Christ, we must go beyond words and provide tangible support. Organizations like Care Net and local pregnancy resource centers stand on the front lines, offering counseling, healthcare, and parenting support.
We can be part of the solution by supporting these organizations, volunteering, and contacting mothers in our communities. Let us be known as people who value life in words and action, showing Christ's love through practical care.
**Conclusion**:
We are engaged in a battle transcending social and political realms, a spiritual war waged by the enemy against God's creation. But we stand with the victory already won through Jesus Christ, who calls us to stand for life with courage, compassion, and conviction. May we answer this call to protect the innocent, expose the lies of the enemy, and bring hope and Healing to a world desperately needing God's truth? Let us pray that hearts are softened, that lives are spared, and that we, as God's people, continue to uphold the sanctity of life in everything we do.
**Closing Prayer**:
"Lord, You are the Giver of life; every soul is precious in Your sight. We pray for softened hearts and opened eyes so those in darkness may see Your light. May Your truth expose the lies of the enemy, and may Your church stand unwaveringly for life. Use us to bring hope and Healing to those who need it, and empower us to be vessels of Your love and grace. In Jesus' name, Amen."
It is my prayer this message not only speaks to the seriousness of abortion for convenience but also reaches out in grace to those who need forgiveness and restoration.
