Series: Armor of God

Lesson 1: Introduction and The Belt of Truth

Objective: To introduce teens to the concept of the Armor of God and explore the first piece, the Belt of Truth.

Ice Breaker Activity: "Two Truths and a Lie"

  1. Have each teen write down two truths and one lie about themselves.

  2. Go around the room and have each person read their statements.

  3. The group has to guess which statement is the lie.

Link to Lesson: Just as it's essential to discern lies from truths in this game, the Belt of Truth helps us determine Spiritual truths from lies.

Main Teaching

  1. Introduction to Armor of God: Discuss Ephesians 6:10-18, explaining the context and significance of each piece of armor.

2. Focus on the Belt of Truth:

  • Biblical Reference: Ephesians 6:14a ("Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist.")

  • Importance: The Belt of Truth symbolizes integrity and the grounding power of truth in a Christian's life.

  1. Why Truth Matters: Discuss the consequences of living a life based on lies or half-truths; a belt in the Armor of God represents truth, personally and Spiritually.

  2. Application: Challenge the teens to think critically about the 'truths' they encounter in the media, among friends, and in their thoughts. Ask them to hold these against the ultimate truth found in the Bible.

Discussion Questions

  1. Why do you think a belt in the Armor of God represents truth?

  2. How can embracing truth make you a stronger Christian?

  3. Can you think of a situation where knowing the truth significantly impacted your life or someone else's?

Take-Home Activity: "Truth Treasure Hunt"

Assign different Bible verses about truth for teens to read during the week. Have them write their thoughts about each verse and share them during the next meeting.
